CROWN BOTTING WORKS
BIG STONE GAP BOTTLING COMPANY

The Big Stone Gap Post announced on May 27, 1908 that W. R. Willis and C. M. Dougherty had started manufacturing soda at the recently established Big Stone Bottling Company.(1) There is evidence that this bottling company existed earlier under the name Crown Bottling Works, because it, along with C. M. Dougherty, are mentioned in a book which was compiled in 1906.(2) The plant was located on Wood Avenue, between East Fifth and East Sixth Streets. By 1913 the building they were located in is gone according to the 1913 Sanborn maps.
